Environmental Portrait: Reflection

My mom, Pam, my younger sister, Julia, and my little cousin, Samantha.

The first two of my mom show her driving. She's a Hospice Nurse and is always driving for work. I had her looking in the rearview mirror, not only so her face would be seen, but to represent how she is always looking back. She loves to think about her past while she's going toward the future. I was sitting in the back seat and had to lift myself up. I thought it would be a good position to be in because I could get her face in the rearview mirror. In the first picture she's laughing and in the other she's making a silly face, showing her lighthearted nature.

In the third picture I photographed my mom and Samantha. My mom is sitting in the living room with Samantha, penned up. I took this picture because my mom loves to be around babies, especially Samantha. Like most adults she begins using baby talk and enters her little world, while still being motherly.

The 4th and 5th pictures are of Samantha. I kept the environment very simple because, while she does have quite the personality, she doesn't need much to represent her environment (she's 10 months old). Because of this I put her in the 'penned in' environment. I gave her her favorite doll and a silver bowl, which she had been carrying around, like her chocolate lab does with his silver bowl. The first of the two is my favorite because of the angle her leg and arm are at.

My last picture of my sister Julia. I had her in her room doing a puzzle because she has asberger's syndrome (a form of autism). While most of her room isn't seen it is still a place that represents her well. I wanted to keep the camera at an angle that would show her face as well as some of the environment around her.
