Family Portrait - Reflection

For this assignment I photographed my great aunt Linda, my cousin, Samantha, my Nana, and my dogs, Steve and Trooper.

The first picture is of my Auntie Linda. I said to her "I need to take a picture of you for my photography class!" and that was the pose I got and I think it perfectly represents her silly nature. In the door behind her you can see the reflection of her sister, Judy, who is not only her sister, but a dear friend. I like that you can see Judy in the background, but I wish I had better lighthing.

My 2nd and 5th pictures are of my cousin Samantha. She had just fallen when I took the first one and in the second one she had been making faces when I took the picture. These show the simplicity of childhood and how, when learning to walk you have to fall. The first one is my favorite because of her expression, the angle, and the way the toy she had been riding is, somewhat, laying on top of her. I love that neither have distracting backgrounds, yet they still manage to bring some patterns into the picture.

The 3rd picture is of my dog Steve. Steve is very crazy and very difficult to get to stand still. I gave him a selection of toys to play with and he kept running back and forth between him. I got him to stand still because he froze when he noticed the wristband of my camera swaying. I love the angle of this picture, because it's going, somewhat, up his nose. I also love the light from behind and how innocent he looks, something one would only see when he's asleep.

The 4th picture is of my dog Trooper. I pointed the camera at him and he posed just like this. He's clearly used to my mom's non-stop picture taking. This was a suprise to me, because he was actually listening. Like with Steve, this is a rare occurance. I love the angle looking down at him, but I wish that glare wasn't in his eyes (the picture was blurry without flash).

The last picture is of my Nana. I randomly took this picture and I love her expression. it shows how she, like the rest of my family, is very silly. It also shows that she has a great appetite for life. While I enjoy the whimsical nature of this photograph I wish I had gotten a nicer picture of her.
